Oppo Find X9 Pro review

The Oppo Find X9 Pro has just gone global and is bringing some impressive hardware. There's a lot to like about it outside of its two most obvious selling points, but we'll be quick to admit we're mostly fixated on its massive battery and the new telephoto camera with an optional add-on extender lens.

The Find X9 Pro swaps out the two telephotos of the previous model for a single new higher-res 200MP unit. It's a larger sensor too, and paired with a lens that focuses super close. vivo has been doing it for a while, now Oppo is taking its own shot at a transformative telephoto experience. That transformation can be taken a step further with the optional telephoto extender that offers 10x optical zoom to 230mm.

Going back to the 7,500mAh battery - we're not used to getting such capacities on high-end handsets and even when we hear of huge batteries in some markets, they usually don't make it to where we are. Well, Oppo has cleared whatever regulatory hurdles have gotten in the way before, and the Find X9 Pro comes with a promise for chart-topping endurance.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

We'd be moderately worried about charging speed with such a high-capacity battery, so let's hope Oppo's 80W SuperVOOC is up to the task. The 6.78-inch OLED display is all sorts of great, now supposedly even brighter. And then there's the new chipset, of course - the latest top-tier Dimensity. The new selfie camera is another most welcome development, and we'd almost have missed the improved main camera with all that telephoto excitement. We told you there was a lot to like here.

Oppo Find X9 Pro unboxing

Our review unit arrived in a stylish gray (or is it silver?) retail box with a large "9" dominating the front to indicate the generation and a couple of Hasselblad references here and there. It's a half-height box, so no charger, at least in our neck of the woods.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

Inside the box, there's a regular USB-A-to-C cable, as well as a male Type-C to female Type-A adapter. All the packaging is made of paper, for what that's worth.

There's no protective case inside the box, but Oppo sent us the optional aramid snap-on cover that you can get at an extra cost. That's not to be confused with the (otherwise almost identical, but different where it matters) aramid cover you need for the Teleconverter Kit - more on that later.

Design, build quality, handling

The Find X9 Pro marks a significant departure from the previous generation's styling, shifting the rear cameras from their former central position to the top left corner and losing all traces of curvature in the front and back panels. It's an entirely different look and one that inevitably evokes iPhone comparisons - good thing Apple changed things up a bit for the latest generation.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

We imagine that fitting a battery this big into a manageably-sized handset had to involve some concessions, and the relocation of the cameras was instrumental in making it possible. As for the flattening of the display and rear panel - that's seemingly more of an overall design trend in the entire industry, with foldables replacing curved-screen phones for the coolness factor.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

It's an unapologetically boxy design indeed, and it will take some getting used to if you're coming from something with more fluid shapes but it will be easy to pick up from a table, so there's that. It will also accommodate a glass screen protector more easily, though the (otherwise super quick and reliable) ultrasonic fingerprint reader might not appreciate an extra layer of that sort.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

The large display dominates the front and the minimal bezels are in keeping with the phone's premium stature.

The handset weighs in at a very reasonable 224g - it's 9g lighter than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. It's not lightweight, but it doesn't strike us as unwieldy either.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

The glass panels come from Corning, but Oppo hasn't disclosed which type of Gorilla Glass that is exactly. The frame is made of aluminum. Neither the back nor the frame is particularly prone to picking up fingerprints, which is nice.

The phone is IP68/IP69-rated for dust and water resistance - that includes submersion (1.5m, 30mins) as well as high-temperature water jets (80C).

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

The Find X9 Pro has more physical controls than your average handset. The volume rocker and the power key are trivial stuff - here, they are positioned on the right, somewhere in the top half. Also on the right, you'll find Oppo's Quick button - the camera control that's not really a button but a pressure-sensitive (and capacitive) area for launching your camera and doing basic actions in it.

Very much a button is the Snap key on the left - this one can also be set to launch the camera, but you can alternatively set it up to turn on the flashlight (or voice recorder, translator, do not disturb mode, or whatnot).

Our version of the Find X9 Pro comes with a dual nano SIM slot, but it will happily replace SIM2 with an eSIM, so the phone is globetrotter-friendly.

Color options of the Find X9 Pro include our Silk White review unit, a black-ish Titanium Charcoal, and a Velvet Red that's seemingly limited to China. We kind of like that 'red' one.

6.78-inch OLED display is unchanged, still great

The Find X9 Pro is equipped with an 6.78-inch LTPO OLED display. It has a 1272x2772px resolution - weirdly, that's 8px wider and 8px shorter than the Find X8 Pro's panel. The aspect ratio is 19.6:9 with a pixel density of 450ppi. The refresh rate is dynamically adjustable in the 1-120Hz range, high-frequency 2160Hz PWM dimming should ensure a flicker-free experience, and wide-ranging HDR support is also on the menu.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

Oppo says that the Find X9 Pro should be good for 800nits in manual operation and 1,800nits under bright ambient light (for a fully lit-up display). In our testing, we measured around 800nits for a 75% lit-up area when operating the slider manually, with a boost to just under 1,200nits under bright ambient conditions with the adaptive brightness enabled.

However, we veered a little off course and examined the same 75% pattern in Oppo's Photos gallery and got 1,803nits of max brightness.

Refresh rate

The Find X9 Pro's refresh rate implementation allows it to switch between various modes in the 1Hz to 120Hz range. It will base it on a combination of content and user interaction, with brightness seemingly not affecting it - we got 1Hz for idle states even at minimum brightness.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

Our experience with high fps gaming on Oppo phones doesn't change with the Find X9 Pro - all titles we tried were capped at 60Hz/60fps.

Streaming and HDR

The Find X9 Pro supports all major HDR standards, including HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Netflix was happy to serve both HDR10 and Dolby Vision video (depending on title), and we also got HDR streams on YouTube. The Widevine L1 certification means you get high-res playback of DRM protected content too.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

As expected, the Find X9 Pro supports the Android Ultra HDR standard for displaying HDR photos with enhanced tone mapping and a brightness boost for highlights. It's implemented in Oppo's Photos gallery, where you get a button to turn it off on a photo-by-photo basis for comparison, in addition to being able to switch it off globally in settings. It also works in Google Photos (where you don't get the temporary preview button), and in Chrome - for images from other compliant phones, too.

Oppo Find X9 Pro battery life

The Find X9 Pro uses a silicon carbon battery with a whopping 7,500mAh capacity - one of the major upgrades compared to the previous generation. This large battery has also seemingly made it to the EU version of the phone unlike some competitors that get capacity reductions in some markets.

It should come as no surprise then that the Find X9 Pro returned superb endurance results, earning an Active Use Score of 21:57h - the highest result we've seen. Indeed, it would have been even higher, had it not been for the unremarkable call time - all the screen-on tests were stellar. The web browsing number is a chart-topper, as is the result in the video test, while the gaming test returned an all-time second-best figure. An overall impressive showing from the Find X9 Pro.

Our new Active Use Score is an estimate of how long the battery will last if you use the device with a mix of all four test activities. You can adjust the calculation based on your usage pattern using the sliders below. You can read about our current battery life testing procedure here. For a comprehensive list of all tested devices so far, head this way.

We have a couple of other Dimensity 9500 devices in testing (wink), and their call times are similarly low, so it would appear that high battery draw in this use case is characteristic of the chipset. We wouldn't be too worried about it, but if your smartphone usage has a high percentage or actual phonecall usage, you might want to consider other options.

Charging speed

The Find X9 Pro's specsheet lists an 80W charging capability with the company's proprietary SuperVOOC standard or up to 55W using USB Power Delivery. The phone doesn't come with a charger, but we had an 80W SuperVOOC adapter lying around and we tested with that one. We also tried with a high-quality aftermarket USB PD charger.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

Charging speed is relatively good, when you take into account the capacity. We clocked a 1:07h time from 1% to 100% with the proprietary adapter (the meter maxing out at 67W), or 1:20h with the USB PD charger (43W peak). In both cases it took some extra time after the phone reported a fully charged state before it actually stopped charging the battery (13mins and 7mins respectively) - that's fairly standard behavior and the extra time tends to vary from charger to charger and even from run to run with the same charger.

So while it may seem like a good idea to grab a SuperVOOC charger to get the best possible charging speed, the intermediate measurements we got were essentially the same between the two standards - whether it's 53% or 54% at the half-hour mark doesn't feel like a meaningful difference, and certainly not one to warrant having a proprietary adapter instead of a good universal one.

The X9 Pro also supports wireless charging at up to 50W when using an in-house AirVOOC pad, which we didn't have available. When using a generic Qi2 compliant charger rated for 25W, we only got up to 7W on the input end of the charger, and it took some 9 hours from empty to full - so perhaps only viable for overnight charging. Reverse wireless charging is also supported, at up to 10W.

You get a fairly standard set of battery saver and battery health options. It has the Smart charging toggle that attempts to learn your charging habits and does the final top off just before it predicts you'll be needing the phone. It also allows you to set a limit on charging in 5% increments between 80 and 100%. You can also turn off the Smart rapid charging and have the Find charge slower than its maximum capability.

Speaker test

The Find X9 Pro has a two-speaker stereo system with one bottom-firing unit and another one above the display that directs sound towards the front and serves as an earpiece for voice calls. In a departure from previous implementations, where both speakers will also output the opposite channel's track at a lower volume, in addition to their own, the Find X9 Pro maintains strict channel separation. The channels are otherwise assigned based on the phone's orientation when it's held in landscape, while the top speaker gets the left channel when the handset is held vertically.

Bottom speaker • Top speaker/earpiece

The Find X9 Pro earned 'Good' rating for loudness in our test - a notch below last year's model, which is seemingly shaping up to be a trend this year. Oppo toned down the highs and the midrange, so the Find X9 Pro sounds more neutral than the previous generation. Both the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the Galaxy S25 Ultra sound better overall though, more bassy too.

Use the Playback controls to listen to the phone sample recordings (best use headphones). We measure the average loudness of the speakers in LUFS. A lower absolute value means a louder sound. A look at the frequency response chart will tell you how far off the ideal "0db" flat line is the reproduction of the bass, treble, and mid frequencies.

Android 16 with ColorOS 16 on top

The Oppo Find X9 Pro comes with ColorOS 16 on board, the company's overlay running on top of an Android 16 core. Oppo says the Find X9 Pro should get 5 OS version updates as well as 6 years total of ongoing software patches.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

The latest ColorOS isn't much different than the previous version, but there are a handful of additions, some subtle touches here and there, and a bunch of AI-based functionality. The basics remain largely unchanged though, save for a minor redesign of this icon or that.

Among the new additions this year is a wide selection of lockscreen clock styles with a now-ubiquitous 3D-like depth effect where the clock hides behind an element of the image, just like on iOS. Animations aplenty, too.

Performance and benchmarks

Like several previous generations of non-Ultra Oppo Find Xs, the Find X9 Pro relies on a Mediatek chipset instead of a Snapdragon one. The Dimensity 9500 we have here is a proper high-end chip, of course - made on a 3nm process and featuring an All Big Core CPU configuration with latest-gen Arm cores.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

The CPU uses a single Arm C1-Ultra prime core clocked at up to 4.21GHz, joined by three C1-Premium cores, and four C1-Pro cores - the usual 8 in total. There's the Arm G1-Ultra GPU, Mediatek's ninth-gen NPU 990, and the Imagiq 1190 ISP all in action. Madiatek promises 32% higher single-core CPU performance compared to the previous chip (17% multi-core), 33% improvement in peak GPU performance, better AI numbers (of course), as well as efficiency improvements across the board.

Our review unit has 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage and that's going to be the only globally available option. In China, there's a top-spec 16GB/1TB version too, as well as 12GB RAM variants with either 256GB or 512GB of storage.

In benchmarks, the Find X9 Pro showed some improvements over last year's model, though it couldn't quite achieve Mediatek's lofty promises. We got 14% better single-core CPU performance compared to the Find X8 Pro, with the multi-core test returning 10% higher marks. The Antutu 10 score was the same as what we got from last year's model, but the Antutu 11 result was mighty high. The Find X9 Pro has a notable advantage in ray tracing, at least in 3DMark's Solar Bay test, while other 3DMark results are great, but not class-leading.

The Find X9 Pro isn't too happy under sustained CPU load, quickly dropping to just under half of its initial result - a level it could maintain for about 25 minutes before losing yet more of its performance to thermal throttling. The GPU results weren't too exciting either.

Surface temperatures reached pretty high levels on the back of the handset, to the right of the camera island, where the chipset is. We measured around 50 degrees which is about what you'd expect. It's not where you'd normally be holding the phone, so it doesn't cause any discomfort (not that it's too hot to the touch either).

One large-sensor telephoto instead of two smaller ones

Oppo has reimagined the Pro camera system for this Find generation and replaced the two separate 50MP telephotos with a single 200MP one that should be better at the short end and at least as good at the long end. The main camera has been improved too, and there's also a more capable selfie camera now. Ah, and let's not forget there's now an option to add a telephoto extender to the Find X9 Pro. It's quite the comprehensive upgrade then, it would seem.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

Starting with the telephoto situation, Oppo has moved to a large(-ish) 1/1.56" 200MP sensor - it's not as large as that on the high-end vivos (1/1.4"), but still a significant upgrade over the 1/1.95" imager on the previous generation. It's paired with a periscope lens with a 70mm equivalent focal length, a bright f/2.1 aperture and pretty remarkable close-focusing capability at around 9cm. On top of that, it's been designed to work with a new Telephoto extender lens that Oppo and Hasselblad have developed that extends the optical reach to 230mm.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

The main camera has been upgraded from the 1/1.4" sensor on the previous-gen model to a 1/1.28" one, and the aperture is also a little bit brighter now, too. The ultrawide camera remains unchanged in terms of hardware.

The Find X8 Ultra's True Color camera has made its way to the Find X9 Pro. It's a dedicated 2MP camera that divides the frame into a 6 by 8 grid and calculates the light temperature for each section separately. That way you can get selective white balance for different portions of the frame and better color rendition in difficult settings. The main goal is to achieve appealing skin tones in portrait shots in artificial and/or limited lighting.

You do finally get autofocus for your selfies, alongside an increase in the nominal resolution. The front facing camera has now been upgraded to a 50MP module (same sensor as the ultrawide on the back) that should be better than the ubiquitous 32MP fixed-focus selfie cameras of yesteryear.

  • Wide (main): 50MP Sony LYT-828 (1.28", 1.22µm - 2.44µm), f/1.5, 23mm, multi-directional PDAF (11cm - ∞), Laser AF, OIS; 4K@120fps
  • Telephoto, 3x: 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP5 (S5KHP5, 1/1.56", 0.5µm - 2.0µm), periscope lens, f/2.1, 70mm, multi-directional PDAF (9cm - ∞), OIS; 4K@120fps
  • Ultrawide: 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN5 (1/2.76", 0.64µm - 1.28µm), f/2.0, 15mm, multi-directional PDAF; 4K@60fps
  • Front camera: 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN5 (1/2.76", 0.64µm - 1.28µm), f/2.0, 21mm, multi-directional PDAF; 4K@60fps

The Quick Button we saw on the previous-gen models is here too. It's only a button by name because it doesn't actually click but it's pressure-sensitive instead and relies on the phone's (super nice) vibration motor for haptics to fuel the illusion.

The functionality is straightforward and intuitive. Double-press on the key can be used to launch the camera or launch and immediately snap a photo. You can also disable the double press action and only use the Quick Button once you're already in the camera app.

In Photo mode, a press on the button will take a photo, and long-pressing it will do a burst of photos. In Video mode, it can be used to start and end a recording. There's also a capacitive sensor underneath so you can slide your finger for zoom action (but only in landscape orientation).

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

Oppo is keen to point out a few 'industry-firsts' (by their own accounts). One of them is the Find X9 Pro's ability to capture photos in 50MP by default - it's a setting in the formats section that doesn't explicitly say '50MP' but is instead 'High resolution'. It works on all three rear cameras. The other development is that motion photos are now shot in 4K instead of the 1080p of yesteryear.

Daylight photo quality

Main camera

The Find X9 Pro captures great photos with its main camera. Dynamic range is excellent, getting you well-developed extremes, but also nice global contrast. Color rendition is easily likeable, with just the right amount of pop and dependable auto white balance. Detail is nice and crisp and noise is non-existent, but foliage can be just a little bit too artificial on occasion.

Portraits at 1x are also excellent with pleasing skin tones and well-defined facial detail. There's a bit of natural blur too, but if you'd like some additional separation between subject and background, the Portrait mode will deliver that, with pretty much no errors along the borders.

It would make sense then that the main camera should be capable of capturing nice 2x shots and indeed that's the case. The photos are sharp and detailed for the most part and unless you go looking for problems, you'll likely be perfectly happy with these. Still, the phone will have a tendency to smear certain types of areas - check out the pavement and the left granite wall in the first shot for example, and again in the 7th. Not half-bad overall though.

People shots at 2x remain great, with detail still very good on the subject. The 47mm focal length does bring a better perspective and more flattering facial proportions.

Telephoto camera

The 200MP 3x telephoto camera is arguably the star of this show and it's ready for the spotlight. Its 12MP shots are superb, capturing excellent detail with a reasonably natural rendition of high-frequency textures and no noise. Colors are great, dynamic range is excellent.

You're very likely to enjoy the 3x portraits too. The 70mm focal length lends nicely to tight head-and-shoulders framing, skin tones are lifelike, detail is great. We like the Photo mode's shots background separation, but Portrait mode can enhance it without any real negative effects.

The 50MP mode can capture better detail in some scenes, but we're once again witnessing some softening in certain areas which Oppo's algorithms apparently decide aren't worth the time in processing.

You could shoot at 6x in 12MP, however, and that's looking like a way more sensible use of bits to us. Sharpness is excellent, detail is generally great - minus some of that local softening that seems to be ubiquitous with the phone's more... unusual modes (12MP 2x, 50MP 3x, and now 12MP 6x).

Oppo is advertising a 13.2x lossless zoom for the find X9 Pro's telephoto camera - it's a seemingly arbitrary zoom level, but maybe there's something about how the sensor demosaicking math works out. Low-light photo quality

Main camera

In the dark, the Find X9 Pro's main camera takes top-class photos. Its exposures are excellent and there's plenty of dynamic range for both well-contained highlights and shadow development. The auto white balance is typically accurate, and colors are great more often than not - perhaps toning down the saturation here or there will help, particularly in scenes with the warm amber lightning. Detail is nice and sharp and quite naturally rendered too.

At 2x zoom, things aren't nearly as rosy, however - we'd probably even go so far as to say we're disappointed. The photos are often soft or blotchy, and we only had the occasional good image (the fifth sample). This was also more or less our experience on the Find X8 Pro, and Oppo doesn't seem to have improved on it too much.

3x Telephoto camera

The telephoto camera brings us back on track though. Its photos have excellent sharpness and wide dynamic range, so that's great. There was the occasional white balance misstep (the fourth scene is a lot warmer in reality), and saturation could be a little too much with the amber-lit scenes, but you can work yourself around those 'issues'.

Video recording

The Find X9 Pro can record video up to 4K120 with the main and telephoto cameras on the back, while the ultrawide and the selfie camera max out at 4K60. The Pro video mode adds a 4K24 option for all cameras. There's still no 8K to be found (an almost praiseworthy omission).

The default codec is h.265 but you can switch to h.264. Dolby Vision capture is available for all quality settings, including 4K120, if you tap on the HDR toggle in the viewfinder. The Pro video mode adds a Log option.

There's an always-on regular electronic video stabilization for all resolutions and frame rates, plus there's the Ultra steady mode, which also works in all modes other than 4K120. Pro video mode lets you disable the electronic stabilization.

The Find X9 Pro's main camera videos at 1x are great, capturing wide dynamic range and vivid colors. We'd take a bit more fine detail, but it's very good as is. 2x footage remains notably soft (as was the case on the Find X8 Pro). The 3x zoom results are excellent though, and 6x clips are very good as well, almost as good as on the previous generation that had an actual 6x camera. The ultrawide's videos are solid too - great colors and dynamic range, good detail.

The main camera continues to deliver high-quality video at night - detail is good, noise is controlled well, dynamic range and colors are excellent. The telephoto clips are also very good, if a notch less sharp than last year's model. At 6x, the quality remains good as well. The ultrawide has gotten a little better this year though - it's sharper, better detailed, with wider dynamic range.

Video stabilization is excellent on the Find X9 Pro across all scenarios. When shooting from a stationary position, you get nearly tripod-like results, and walking shake is ironed out well too. Panning is also smooth, without abrupt transitions.

Oppo Hasselblad Teleconverter Kit hands-on

Alongside the Find X9 Pro, Oppo has also launched the Oppo Hasselblad Teleconverter Kit - a set of accessories for adding extra telephoto reach to the smartphone. We saw a similar add-on from vivo for the X200 Ultra and now the X300 series, and Oppo is joining in on the extended zoom action. There are a few differences, however - in the hardware, as well as in the software implementation.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

Oppo's take is based on a slim aramid snap-on cover for providing the attachment point - it's a much more compact and less in-your-face type of case than what vivo is offering. It's essentially a three piece solution - the back cover itself, a metal slide-on attachment plate, and the actual telephoto extender (we're happier calling it an 'extender' rather than 'teleconverter').

The thing is, in Oppo's execution, the plate blocks the other two cameras, so if you detach the extender lens, your other two cameras remain blocked. You can, of course, unslide the whole plate with the lens attached to it, but then you can't put on the lens' back cap leaving the rear element unprotected in your bag.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

The front lens cap is also not entirely well thought out - you have to squeeze it from the outside even though it looks like it's a pinch style. You also can't reliably stand the lens on it, which is closer to being a real problem. On the one hand, it's more 'premium' than the simple friction-hold cap on the vivo/Zeiss extender.

A needlessly big and heavy tripod collar is also included.

The lens offers 3.28x zoom over the 70mm-equivalent focal length of the phone's telephoto camera, for a total of 230mm. The lens itself weighs 167g, the case-plate-lens assembly adds up to 213g (with the front cap on), and a full setup with the phone included tips the scales at 437g (still minus the chonky 72g tripod collar).

The software implementation is flawed in a couple of ways, but it's decently usable. For one, "Hasselblad Teleconverter" is much too long a mode name to have taking up space on your mode carousel.

The other thing is that it's a mode in the first place. Inside it, you have a switchable interface between all-auto stills and video, but you can't, for example, use the Extender in Pro mode with its manual controls (unless, of course, you're willing to live with the inverted image it provides and stay out of Teleconverter mode). The vivo X200 Ultra implementation was like that, but for the X300s they've made the teleconverter a toggle in the viewfinder that's available for any mode - a much more versatile approach.

Either way, you get three preset zoom levels - the native 10x, as well as 20x and 40x.

We took a few samples with the teleconverter and at the native focal length the quality is simply awesome. We've already said we're fans of the camera that's taking those pictures and the extender is easily up to the same high standard. You need to keep in mind that depth of field is quite shallow, so even with relatively distant subjects it's a good idea to shoot with some extra intent on what's your subject and maybe tap on it to make sure.

While the minimum focusing distance increases notably compared to using the phone's telephoto camera on its own (113cm from phone to subject vs. 9cm), you can still get some wonderful closeups, while keeping a healthy distance from whatever you're shooting - not that these plants are likely to snap back at you.

Going back to shooting distant subjects, the 20x zoom level (or 460mm equivalent focal length) starts to introduce some softness, but it's still very usable.

The 40x zoom is stretching things a bit too much - you probably wouldn't think to try and zoom to 12x with the 3x camera, and even if you did, you wouldn't expect miracles. Well, same with the 10x extender at 40x.

While the phone itself doesn't have a direct shortcut to 10x (at least in this software build - Oppo likes to change things up a bit in this respect), you can always pinch to zoom to 10x for comparison purposes. You don't need us to tell you which shots look better.

The teleconverter works nicely in the dark as well, particularly at 10x, of course. Finding subjects to shoot might be trickier, though, and it's always a good idea not to be confrontational with the security personnel at government buildings you're taking pictures of after hours.

Again, you stand to gain some detail, sharpness, and clarity if you shoot at night with the teleconverter compared to using the bare phone at the same zoom level.

Verdict

The Find X9 Pro is almost too good to be true. What were its key drawing factors on paper - the battery and the camera system - turned out just as great in practice. The phone has unmatched endurance with the screen on (and it's a super nice screen to begin with, but that's hardly a standout observation at this level), and manages to do it without looking or feeling like a brick. It also charges reasonably fast for what's more like a powerbank-sized capacity - hardly any complaints there either.

Oppo's continued reliance on Mediatek chips for the Find Pros has proven successful over the years, we reckon, and the Find X9 Pro performs to the expected high standard - in benchmarks and in subjective feel. With the usual caveat that prolonged loads will cause it to throttle, of course, though you probably wouldn't stress it all too much, because of a long-standing ColorOS aversion to high-refresh rate gaming - at least here in our experience. We'd argue that a cameraphone of this caliber doesn't need to be an all-out gaming phone too.

Oppo Find X9 Pro review

And how great of a cameraphone the Find X9 Pro is, indeed! It's not like the previous generation was lacking in any major way, but the 2025 model brings improved selfies, a nicer main camera, and an even more versatile telephoto arrangement, even if it's just one zoom camera in place of two - improved closeup shooting and low-light performance will benefit everyone, and then there's the optional telephoto extender for those that are super serious about their reach. The Find is not without its camera missteps, but they're smallish enough to fly under many radars.

In the end, we can't see any real reason why you shouldn't get a Find X9 Pro if you're in the market for a high-end cameraphone. It's an easy recommendation.

Pros

  • Bright high-res OLED display, Dolby Vision capable too.
  • Class-leading battery life inside a package that's no bigger than the competition.
  • Good charging speed for the capacity.
  • Mediatek SoC is very powerful overall.
  • Thoroughly capable camera system, standout telephoto closeups.
  • Optional telephoto extender makes the camera even more versatile.

Cons

  • Gaming comes with frame rate limitations.
  • Heavy throttling under continued load.
  • 2x videos are not too hot; 2x zoom photos in the dark are meh.
  • Minor white balance inconsistencies in low light.
  • Teleconverter Kit is expensive in the EU; and also missing some of the camera accessories (magnetic grip and a magnetic camera light).
